With the acquisition of holy basil from Monday's shopping trip, my collection of Basils-Trios for kitchen adventures is complete ;)

Hi Jean, I'm Niz from from the M4M forum. We were talking about herb gardens and "yogibabe" Regina mentioned that you have a nice website dedicated to plants.

I came to take a look and am so impressed with your enthusiasm and the information on the plants thriving at your place that you have so lovingly, carefully recorded.

I have been planting a variety of other plants, but am very new to edible plants. I have been given a curry plant by my mum's friend. It is growing very well now. But a basil (can't tell if it's sweet basil or thai basil) given later came with only one leaf left due to some serious lack of attention while residing temporarily at my mum's place.

The curry plant and basil are placed side by side on my washing machine in the kitchen. This spot receives about 4 hours of direct morning sunlight from an east facing glass window. The curry plant is thriving. The basil is producing many leaves but they are much smaller than they should be. (The single leaf that was hanging on initially was much bigger.) The leaves are also yellowish green and don't look too healthy. The stem looks rather yellowish too.

I'm not too sure what I can do. I hope the plant is not beyond help. If it thrives, it will be so satisfying. Yogibabe mentioned I can drop you a note. So here it is! Do hope to hear from you. And, thank you so much for patiently reading this.

hi niz, thanks for visiting;)

i hope regina has also told u tat its only a little balcony, and im a gardening-newbie. hehe

wish i have a curry plant too. plus another laksa plant... but they can be too space-taxing for my place. so for now, i can onli admire n envy your curry plant.

do u wanna send me a foto of your basil (whole plant foto plus leave close-up)? mayb i can tell u which basil u hv on the washing machine.

since the curry plant is thriving, then i guess the sunlight condition muz be good. your basil shd grow well with a bit of recuperation time :)

Hi Jean, thanks so much for offering to take a look at my basil. Sadly, it died.

I've come back to take a look at your pictures. I'm amazed plants just thrive under your care! Very inspiring.

I'm hoping to get another healthy basil from my mum's friend.

Right now, I have a longan sprouting in a pot. My daughter discovered that the seed of the longan she was eating was about to germinate. We planted it together. She asked when she can eat longans! I told her our longan will not flower and bear fruits but we can still enjoy looking at its leaves. : )

hi niz,
if its sweet basil u r interested in, n not want to wait too long, u can pick up a pot from jason's supermart at vivomart.

all my basils are too old n too big by now. so recently i 'chopped' them all down, took some cuttings and some flowers to star growing afresh from cutting or seeds.

I have 2 pots of basil in my garden. But not sure if they are holy basil or Thai basil.

One has purple flowers.

One has white flowers with nice fragrant lemony leaves. I also read of lemon basil. Not sure if it is a pot of lemon basil.

Can you help to identify them?
