Thai basils for the wok

Love thai food ! My own basils (grown from seeds) are simply not growing fast enough to go into the wok :p

Last weekend, I bought this pot of Thai-Basil from FEF nursery Kovan. That should feed us for a long while :) The purple flower-stalks are really pretty. Pity that i'll have to snip them off soon so that the plant can concentrate on generating leaves for our cooking.

Thanks very much for the link, hamster! quick & easy thai cooking lessons ;)

it's difficult to get holy basil plant in spore. that's how i ended up with Ho-Ra-Pa instead of Ghad-Pao :p

i tried growing thai basil from rooted stems. they root very fast but will usually start to flower quickly (bolting). even cutting off flowers cannot help the plant to produce more leaves instead. i think the stems are simply too mature to use.

So what i do is wait for the flowers to mature instead of cutting them off...then harvest their dried seeds to grow new thai basil plants.

i kind'of'a agree with u, savvymummy. cutting off the flowers realli didnt help much.

wat i do now is to take stem-cuttings. n yes, thai basils propangate realli easily thru stem-cuttings.
