guess the search-engine didnt tell u tis, hehe. not sure if i shd be giving advises a all!!?? still...
u seems to be facing the same problem as my left wing corridor. mayb i can share with u my findings :-
-> as far as i koe, all edibles (green vegs, tomatoes, cucumbers... u name it) are impossible without sun.
-> some delicate flowers will enjoy lesser sunshine, but they either may not flower or will so so less profusely when lacking sunshine. some folks in our situation successfully grew PHLOX.
-> African violets & gloxinias are wonderful flowers tat can be grown in bright condition (no need direct sun), away from rain. u will love the beautiful displays of attention-seeking flowers !
-> many foliage can survive with part-shade or less sun. eg, money plants, zz plants, dracenas fragrants, plus ferns such as asparagus ferns and the list goes on.
i m disappointed that i cant grow edibles at this particular spot. but if u are not growing for the tables (like i m), then u will be spoilt with choices from the other catergories !

Look like I have to give up the idea of growing 'food plants'. Actually i will really love to have herbs like basil, chilli, lime, etc. but looks like i have to settle for others.
hi delci ezmum, dun be too disappointed! e balcony may not be sunny, but walk the house/corridor again. cant be tat the whole house is shrouded under cool shade;) mayb one window ledge, kitchen or service yard? one pot of basil/ thymes/ oregano/etc will not take up much space (lime & chilli plants probably too big).
The fact is, my house really don't have sunny spots that has sun long enough for certain plants to grow well. Although a few of my windows faces the west, but with the adjacent block of flats and me being on low floor, the sun is block out. :(
The good news is::: My Gloxinia (haha, finally found the name for it!) is thriving! :) Total of 4 flowering buds now. Just hoping that it will pull thru' till the flowers blossom.
congrats ezmum, u found yourself a really cool shaded house -tats a lucky pick in spore, given tat most people have to struggle with sun heating up the interior ;)
then of course, it becomes 'harder-life' for a gardener lo :p
good thing there are wonderful blooms like gloxinia & AVs tat can grow out of sun !yeah!
can post a pic of gloxinia for me when they bloom? im thinking of getting one too, but it is very space-demanding... so still thinking, hehe

My balcony is not sunny, only get some west sun from about 4pm to 6+pm.
What are the plants that I can grow under such condition?

eh... why do you say that the Gloxinia is space demanding? Because of its spreading foliage?

My Gloxinia is blooming, albeit, strange cos it is sticking out tall :P but, I'm still happy that finally, I see flower blooming under my care :)
